Google has a background of shutting down their things and products which are not earning them profit. Some such products are Picnic , Photo editor, Notebook , a clipping tool , Listen , a Podcasting client , Google Desktop , the offline search , Google Apps , Google SMS channels, iGoogle and now Google Reader .
Google is an only profit company and they do not like to spending valuable time , cash and resources and manpower on projects that are not earning enough profit for the team. This makes sense and the best side of the closing down of such big products is that it offers room for smaller companies to grow and become established like Google .

As a blogger who has mainly used Google Reader For a year , it is completely difficult to get a good alternative to big fish going to die on July 1st .
I would Personally recommend Feedly , which is a web app like The Google Reader . They are also available for iOS and Android . The other alternatives are Bloglines , Feedspot , Old Reader And News Blur .
